- Description of Venue

Chiang Mai is a northern province of Thailand, 800km from Bangkok. There are direct flights from many countries including connected flight via Bangkok for 50 minutes. Thai airways (www.thaiairways.com)  is the national airline which can provide a reasonable air faire for participants. For the one who love the nature, she/she can reach Chiang Mai by bus or train of 10 hrs. Chiang Mai itself consist of 3 Universities and 2 Universities near by in Chiang Rai and Pisanulok where local students can benefit workshop.

A part of cultural rich province, Chiang Mai has been nominated as an IT city by the Thai government. Concerning to climate, Chiang Mai is a coolest province of Thailand (January is winter, temperature is approx.10-20 C, August is raining season, temperature is approx. 27-32 C.)

There are many International conferences and seminars each year in Chiang Mai for example this year 2003 I, myself, will organize APSEC(Asia-pacific Software Engineering Conference: www.cp.eng.chula.ac.th/~apsec03 ) and also Thai government organize APEC(Asia-Pacific Economy Commission).

Since Chiang Mai will be an IT city, Internet access will be 45 Mbps from UniNet(155 Mbps international link). Under UniNet, video and teleconference including streaming is possible. Each hotel can accommodate about 300 participants plus some low rate hotels (20-30 USD, twin bed room).

3. Objective and a short description of the APAN Event

To update the progress of technology.

To share activities of members in each work group.

4. Schedule

We propose 2 events:

          18th (Summer2004) APAN (optional): 2004.8.23-27.

          19th (Winter2005) APAN (preferred): 2005.1.31-2.4.
