Simon C. Lin
Simon C. Lin is currently the Project Director of the ASGC (Academia Sinica Grid Computing Centre), the only WLCG Tier-1 Centre in Asia. ASGC assisted 30 sites in Asia Pacific region to join the global e-Science collaboration. Working with scientists of various disciplines, ASGC is successfully leading e-Science applications in Asia from High Energy Physics, Biomedicine, Bioinformatics, Earth Sciences, Climate Change, Digital Archives to Social Sciences.
Dr. Lin pioneered the first international research network from the region in 1991, afterwards, he continued leading the major international Internet link upgrade of the Research and Education (R&E) networks of the region. In 1998, he built the first and only R&E optical fiber network in Taipei City. Currently Academia Sinica has 2x10G direct connection to USA and Europe as well as 10 G to Hong Kong and 2.5 G to Japan.
Dr. Lin also pioneered the Digital Library/Museum Pilot Project in Academia Sinica which later led to the e-Learning and Digital Archives Program. The TELDAP, within ten years, has generated approximately 8.8 million digitized materials from 16 thematic groups ranging from Anthropology to Zoology.
Dr. Lin received his Ph.D. degree from Edinburgh University in Theoretical Physics. His current research interests include Big Data and Analytics, Grid and Cloud Computing, Computational Sciences, Statistical Physics and Field theory. He has been adjunct professor in several universities.
