Mr. Ranjan Kumar received his BSc (Hons) Physics and M.Sc.(Physics) degree from University of Delhi. He holds M.Tech (Computer Science) degree from Institution of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineers (IETE), New Delhi.
He has been working for ERNET India (Education & Research Network of India) since the year 2000. At present, he is holding the position of Joint Director in ERNET India. He is also the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of ERNET India.
He has more than 22 years of experience in Design, Integration and implementation of Information Technology Solutions. He has worked on various R&D and consultancy projects in the field of e-governance, Networking & Cyber Security. Some of his major projects are Establishment of IPv6 Enabled Test Bed over ERNET Backbone, ERNET-GEANT Peering, EU-India Grid, MPLS Deployment over ERNET Backbone AND Setting up of e-classroom Infrastructure in 50 Medical colleges under NMCN (National Medical College Network) of India.
He was a core member of team responsible for setting up National Internet Registry (NIR) in India. He visited no. of times to APNIC Secretariat, Brisbane for understanding the operational aspects of setting up NIR in India. He studied NIR operations & APNIC policies and guided NIR development team for developing software for frontend and backend operations as per APNIC guidelines. Setting up of National Internet Registry (NIR) has helped in faster and cost effective allocation of internet resources (IPv4, IPV6, AS No. etc.) within India.
India hosted GAC Secretariat from 2006 to 2011. The GAC (Governmental Advisory Committee) is an Advisory Committee comprising of appointed representatives of national governments, multi-national governmental organizations and treaty organizations. He handled GAC Secretariat activities for 3 years. He organized and managed the Paris, Cairo, Mexico, Sydney, Seoul, Nairobi, Brussels & San Francisco meetings of Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN.
He has played leading role in hosting many international conference/meetings in India. He was the Nodal Officer for hosting 43rd Meeting of Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) in India. He was also the member convener of the local organizing committee for hosting of APCERT (Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team) - 2017 Conference in India. He has been actively involved with APAN activities since the year 2007 & has been regularly attending the APAN meetings.
