Task Force – Asia Pacific Advanced Network

Task Forces are groups of individuals tasked with achieving a particular outcome, tackling a particular problem, over a specific period of time. In the context of APAN, Task Forces are expected to support outcomes in the interests of APAN members and the communities that they support. Some Task Forces may support planning for a particular Working Group, or support the development of a major demonstration/event, while others may tackle more strategic issues for APAN as a whole. Participation is open to any interested parties who can bring expertise, enthusiasm, resources or other benefits to the Task Force. Please read the draft Task Forces Overview for more details.

Proposals for Task Forces can come from any interested party, and are submitted to APAN Secretariat (sec AT apan.net) for processing. A proposal for a Task Force must provide the following information:

A topic/title
A brief description, including the scope of activities (or terms of reference)
A set of defined, measurable outcomes, including delivery dates
A proposed chair
A list of the initial participants and who else may be interested/involved.
What, if any, support the Task Force may require from APAN or any members

Budget & Fees Task Force

Background

The APAN Council of Primary Members established this taskforce to review the budget and fees structure for the period of 2025-2027.

Objective

To support the GM, and Board in forming a neutral committee consisting of primary members to collectively propose a fees structure

Goals

The goals of the Task Force are currently to:

Assess the operation cost based on budget and cost
Assist the GM to develop the fees model
Propose the new structure to the Board and Council

Updates :

Proposal had been tabulated at APAN56, Sri Lanka to the Council members
EGM was held and the final figures were presented to Council members

Gerrit Willem Bahlman was the previous Chair of the Asia Pacific Advanced Network and currently advisor to APAN. He was the Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network Cooperation Centre ( TEIN*CC) and a member of the Steering Committee.

Gerrit has served as a Chief Executive Officer and Chief Information Officer in several different organisations and countries. He was the interim CEO of REANNZ in 2018/19, and was the Director of Information Technology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in Hong Kong for 8 years and the Chief Information Officer at Massey University in New Zealand for 20 years.

He has been the Director and Board member of the Joint Universities Computer Centre ( JUCC ) in Hong Kong and a JUCC Steering Committee Member. He is the inaugural Director of the JUCC Leadership Institute which is residential event with faculty and members from Hong Kong, China, Australia, the United States and New Zealand.
